About Stellar
Stellar is an open network for moving money and issuing digital assets, designed to connect banks, payment systems and people at very low cost. XLM, also called lumens, is the native asset that pays fees and keeps accounts active on the network.
How Stellar Works
Stellar reaches agreement through the Stellar Consensus Protocol, where each participant chooses which others it trusts, rather than through mining. Transactions confirm in a few seconds and cost a tiny fraction of a cent. The network has a built-in order book, so assets issued on Stellar can be exchanged natively without an external venue.
The History of Stellar
Stellar was launched in 2014 by Jed McCaleb, previously a co-founder of Ripple, together with Joyce Kim, and is supported by the non-profit Stellar Development Foundation. The network has focused on remittances and financial inclusion, and has hosted regulated stablecoins and central-bank pilot projects.
What XLM Is Used For
XLM pays network fees and satisfies the minimum balance every account must hold, which guards against spam. It also acts as a bridge asset between currency pairs on the network's internal exchange, and is traded and held as a liquid asset.

Why buy Stellar with YouHodler? +
YouHodler combines advanced security and encryption with a simple way to buy and sell XLM, fast crypto transactions, support for multiple fiat currencies, and a platform that works for newcomers and experienced traders alike.
Is Stellar a good investment? +
Stellar is fast, cheap and has a genuine focus on cross-border payments, backed by a non-profit foundation and several institutional partnerships. Payments is a crowded field and much of the network's value depends on adoption it does not directly control. XLM is volatile — research it before investing.
Can I buy Stellar today and sell it tomorrow? +
Yes. YouHodler supports selling as well as buying, so you can acquire XLM and later exchange it for fiat currencies such as USD or EUR. Transactions settle quickly, major fiat currencies are supported, and withdrawals go out by bank transfer.
Is it safe to buy Stellar? +
Buying XLM is generally safe on a reliable platform like YouHodler, which applies data encryption, identity verification and multi-layer account protection. The asset itself stays highly volatile, so prices can move sharply over short periods.
How do I convert Stellar to cash? +
Connect a bank account, debit card or credit card to your YouHodler profile, exchange your XLM for a fiat currency such as USD or EUR, then withdraw the balance straight to your bank.
How much is $100 worth of Stellar right now? +
That depends on the live XLM price, which moves constantly. Use the price chart on this page to see the current rate and work out exactly how much XLM $100 buys at this moment.
